Transference/Countertransference/Projection...

So, I'm seeing a client who is a lot like me... a lot! She has a similar personality, mannerisms, family issues, individual issues, etc. I am excited to be working with her because I think that the added connection of empathy I can offer will be extremely therapeutic for her. But, at the same time, I worry that some of those transference/countertransference/projection type issues will arise throughout the course of therapy. I still want to remain objective with her. Has anyone had a similar situation yet? Do any of you have thoughts about this?

Mindfulness CBT

I emailed Terry the other day for further resources about Mindfulness CBT. Below is his reply. Thanks, Terry!

------------------------------------------------------------

Here are a few resources:

THE initial Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy web site (originated and based in the U.K.): http://www.mbct.co.uk/

Another main site for Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (they list a number of excellent resources on this site under the “Books & CDs”, “Clinical Research”, and “Resources” pull-down tabs): http://www.mbct.com/Index.htm

The book that lays down and scripts the whole 8-week program (available at the BYU HBL Library, or through Amazon.com): Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression: A New Approach to Preventing Relapse by Zindel V. Segal, J. Mark G. Williams, and John D. Teasdale (Hardcover - Nov 14, 2001) · Hardcover: 351 pages · Publisher: The Guilford Press; 1 edition · Language: English · ISBN-10: 1572307064 · ISBN-13: 978-1572307063

Another awesome, but expensive book, also available at Amazon.com (mine is still on order from the BYU Bookstore): Mindfulness-Based Treatment Approaches: Clinician's Guide to Evidence Base and Applications (Practical Resources for the Mental Health Professional) by Ruth A. Baer (Paperback - Dec 19, 2005) · Paperback: 448 pages · Publisher: Academic Press; 1 edition (December 19, 2005) · Language: English · ISBN-10: 0120885190 · ISBN-13: 978-0120885190

The BYU Library has a number of good resources plus, Amazon.com has a large number of books covering the topic of “Mindfulness-based” therapy. There is also a good amount of the Mindfulness-based model that Marsha Linehan has incorporated into her DBT model.

Pictures on Gmail Account

I thought I'd give you all the update. All of our pictures are now uploaded on gmail - fun! Sachi even sent a funny picture of herself to me to post... see what you think! Daryl, somehow I missed getting your picture in class the other night. Do you have one that you could send to me? I'd be glad to upload any one you have.

Have a great day!

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Hello All,

In case you check this blog (like you should because it will be more fun if you do!), I thought I would let you know about an internship opportunity. Since this blog is public domain, I don't want to put the details here. But, here's a little general information: It is working with adults, mainly those with domestic violence or substance abuse issues (or both). You would be doing individual and group therapy. They do pay, and they are on our approved list. Please let me know if you are interested, and if so, I'll give you all the details and answer any questions that you have about it. Good luck!

Updated Contact Info

Alright everyone, I have updated everyone's contact info in our gmail account with the exception of the pictures. I will try to get those on in the next couple of days. PLEASE log in and check to see if I entered your contact information in correctly and either fix it or let me know to fix it if I did make a mistake. Have a good day!

Welcome to our blog!

Hello All,

I thought that this would be a fun and easy way for us to all keep in touch throughout the years!

Feel free to use this blog for anything you feel is appropriate: personal announcements (ex. "Hey, we just had a new baby!"), professional consulting (ex. "I'm working with a client who... what would you do in this scenario?"), or any other networking you can think of (ex. "There's a job opening at my agency if any of you are interested.").

Let me know if any of you have any questions about how to use this or our gmail account. Be in touch!
